Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
What is GAD?
Generalized Anxiety Disorder is characterized by persistent and excessive worry that is difficult to control and not limited to specific situations or stressors. Individuals with GAD often experience ongoing anxiety that interferes with daily life, relationships, and overall well-being.
Common symptoms of GAD include:
Chronic worry, fear and or apprehensive expectation, often disproportionate to actual events
Restlessness or feeling “on edge”
Difficulty concentrating or finding that the mind “goes blank”
Fatigue, even after adequate rest
Irritability, sometimes with no clear cause
Muscle tension, such as tight shoulders, jaw clenching, or body aches
Sleep disturbances, including trouble falling or staying asleep, or unsatisfying sleep
These symptoms are often accompanied by physiological signs of nervous system dysregulation, such as elevated heart rate, gastrointestinal discomfort, and heightened sensitivity to stress. GAD typically develops gradually and can affect children, adults and seniors.
At Axolotl Counseling and Neurofeedback, we approach GAD with a combination of evidence-based counseling and neurofeedback therapy, targeting both the psychological and neurological patterns contributing to Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Our goal is to support individuals in retraining their brain toward greater calm, clarity, and resilience.
